Looking for the Light

Kelli Abdoney brings Scottish landscape exhibit to Philadelphia region and helps reveal the true power that the light plays in revealing all of our hidden stories.

The “Looking for the Light” photography exhibit opens in the Walton Gallery on Monday, August 29, 2022. This photo exhibition features photographs by Kelli Abdoney, a photographer, photo essayist and instructor at the Solebury School, focusing on the landscapes of Scotland, from where she hails.

“The attraction to crevices, contours, motion, and form that light presents in landscapes is a testament to the resilience of life seeking growth in what otherwise might seem ordinary, forgotten, or insignificant.”

Kelli has traveled globally taking photographs of both landscapes and people that tell the hidden stories that often get overlooked, and in doing so, calls attention to the commonalities we all face together, yet are often forgotten.

Photos that tell stories untold

These photographs, presented prolifically in black and white, embrace light in ways that move beyond a monochromatic view of the picture itself into one that illustrates the often-missed nuances that are illuminated, both literally and figuratively, by the way light is captured.

“I have always been fascinated by light, perhaps due the way in which it presents itself so differently in Scotland than in most other places. The attraction to crevices, contours, motion, and form that light presents in landscapes is a testament to the resilience of life seeking growth in what otherwise might seem ordinary, forgotten, or insignificant,” explains Abdoney.

You can witness the power of “Looking for the Light” at the Walton Gallery from August 29 through November 8. It is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or by appointment (asalamoni@georgeschool.org). In addition, Kelli will be leading a gallery talk, followed by a reception on Tuesday, November 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
